Bexley Pumptrack
Velosolutions was appointed by Bexley Borough Council to design and construct an all-wheeled sports facility within the footprint of a disused ball court and MUGA. In collaboration with Bexley Council and Access Sport, Velosolutions developed a design that included a pump park, BMX training area, and learn-to-ride area.
Working closely with the local authority, Velosolutions obtained a section 50 street works license to close the adjacent footpath for safe deliveries. Access to the site was facilitated by excavating through a bund and installing 150m trackway with an HGV turning area. Velosolutions employed specialist material processing equipment to crush old asphalt into a usable MOT sub-base, demonstrating a cost-effective and environmentally friendly approach.
Addressing drainage challenges, Velosolutions created an attenuation cell capable of holding 16m3 of water with overflow outlets to manage extreme storm events. The implementation of CCTV monitoring towers deterred theft and anti-social behavior during the project. Velosolutions contracted several subcontractors for fencing and painting elements due to project timescales.
Despite significant challenges related to access, material handling, recycling, and drainage, Velosolutions successfully delivered the Bexley all-wheeled sports facility. The result is a world-class, sustainable facility that benefits the community.
