Longridge Pump Track

This was very much a community led project, years in the making. Over a long period of time we supported local community champions and riders by providing a variety of concept drawings and supporting information, which they used to persuade their local authority to commit to building a pump track.

When the council set the budget for the project and confirmed the space available, it became apparent that the established riding community was disappointed by the lack of advanced options that could be incorporated into the space. However, the council also required that the facility should be suitable for less skilled riders. We responded to these competing requirements by designing a 121m pump track, with an additional 53m advanced jump line. This maximised the use of the available space and budget, while also catering for the varied expectations and needs of the local community.

The site required extensive dialogue with Sport England over safety concerns regarding the proximity to football pitches. We commissioned an independent ball strike analysis, which determined that the football pitches were sufficient distance from the track to not require ball stop fencing.

The construction access was challenging, crossing a busy park with shared access and wet ground. All deliveries were guided on the shared access by a banksman before traversing the site on aluminium trackway laid to protect the ground and provide a defined access route.
